The Hummm headed up to Bass Harbour, Maine to perform in the Barn Arts Collective Chekhov Festival for two weeks at the end of September. This festival brought together over 40 artists working on three full productions, two new films, and one major community event - all featuring the work of Anton Chekhov.
The Hummm is a wild and riotous deconstruction of Chekhov's classic play, Three Sisters, performed with just four actors. Created using the “etude” style of devising inspired by our work at The Moscow Art Theater, The Hummm explores themes of success, sisterhood, and loneliness.. Our production transports the audience to a surreal world in which the classically bottled-up passions of Chekhov’s characters are released. Part classic, part fever dream - The Hummm tells the stories of Chekhov’s characters through an exciting mix of dance, clowning, and improv, all tied together by a vibrant soundtrack, performed live by our composer, DJ Fedor Sokolov (aka DJ Boom Boom).
