In December, Sarah spent a week filming the short film Silver. Set during the Civil War, Silver follows Hannah (Sarah Paton), a young woman who dreams of joining the war effort as a nurse, in her struggle with her ailing mother Ester.
Ester is a medium, who is able to contact the spirit realm. With Hannah's help, she connects clients with their dead relatives, and provides them with the solace of knowing that their loved ones have found peace after suffering on the battlefield. When Hannah gets a message from the beyond that she is needed on the front, her mother does everything she can to stop her. Meanwhile, a young man, an engraver who may also be able to see ghosts, arrives at the house. Against a backdrop of war, death, and the supernatural, Silver tells the story of a mother who wants to hold her daughter close, and a daughter fighting for her place in the world.
Shot in a Civil-war era mansion in Conneticut, and aided by fantastic lights, costumes, and fog machines, director Mikhail Saburov (previous work: Remember Us - Cannes Marche du film 2016) creates a world of mystery and pathos in Silver.
Premier: May 2017
